About Troop 169
Joining.
First and most importantly, we want you to join our Troop! As soon as you are ready, please come and visit a troop meeting to see us in action and talk with the Scoutmaster. Or you can send him an e-mail message from the contact page on this site.
In order to join Troop 169, you must:
be at least 11 years old, but not 18, OR
have completed the 5th grade, OR
have earned the Arrow of Light as a Webelos Scout
complete and sign a Boy Scout application
pay the appropriate registration fee (pro-rated depending on when you join)
Additionally, parents must provide:
vehicle insurance information (to help transport scouts)
a completed Troop Resource Survey
a completed and signed Adult Application (optional)
pay the appropriate adult registration fee (if registering as an adult, pro-rated as well)
As a member of Troop 169, you will wear the proper uniform to all Scouting events and meetings. This means you will need to obtain a Scout shirt. If you are a Webelos Scout crossing over, you may already have the shirt needed, and then will only need to obtain the appropriate insignia.
Instructions for how to place Boy Scout uniform patches are available from this site under the 'resources' menu. The same material is available at the Voyageurs Area Council service center, as well as in each Scout Handbook.
Meetings.
Troop meetings are currently on the first and third Mondays of each month from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at the Barnum Community United Methodist Church. If a meeting needs to be cancelled or rescheduled, a representative from the Troop will contact you as soon as possible with the information.
Camping.
Our Troop believes that the heart and soul of Scouting is found in the outdoor program, so we get out as much as we can, in all types of weather. We schedule weekend campouts at State Parks, Scout camps and on private land. Older Scouts will have the opportunity for more physically and mentally challenging outings.
Our Troop provides gear for each patrol to take on campouts. We have tents, stoves, lanterns and cookware for each patrol. For regular campouts, Scouts will need to bring only personal gear (sleeping bag, flashlight, clothes, toiletries, etc.).
Troop campouts are designed by the Patrol Leader's Council to offer training in Scouting skills, advancement opportunities and most importantly FUN! Over the course of the year, the troop works on merit badge requirement and advancement requirements including camping, hiking, orienteering, poineering and many others.
